Krell is now shipping its latest surround sound preamplifier/processors, which capitalize on HDMI 1.3 and its range of support for new formats, such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
There will be two models: the $10,000 S-1200 and the $12,000 S-1200U.
Of course they also have a host of Krell audio goodies...
The preamp is designed around a pair of blazingly fast dual-core 32-bit Crystal CS497004 DSP’s. Digital signals are routed to 24-bit ESS Sabre DACS and every channel uses discrete current-based Class A, direct-coupled circuitry enhanced signal purity and bandwidth. The preamp mode bypasses all digital circuitry and routes analog stereo inputs directly to a balanced resistor ladder volume control.
The S-1200U models will also upconvert all incoming video to 1080p.
Current Krell customers won’t feel burnt by upgrade angst. Krell is offering a “full value” trade-up to existing Krell S-1000 customers. They can have thier older (but only by two years) preamp upgraded to S-1200 or S-1200U for the retail price difference, plus freight.
The upgrade is performed at the Krell facility and includes a new power supply, motherboard, video circuitry, digital and analog circuitry, as well as a new faceplate and rear panel.
PRICE:
S-1200 ($10,000)
S-1200U ($12,000)
