Back Up Early. Back Up Often.
Seagate has unveiled the GoFlex Home network storage system.
With nearly all of everyone's music, photos, and soon movies existing almost solely in digital form, backing up the data is more vital than ever. Seagate promises the GoFlex Home is an easy way to do that.
The two flavors of the GoFlex Home are 1 and 2 terabyte versions. The drive itself is upgradable without having to replace the entire setup. Additionally, additional drives can be hooked up via USB.
Setup requires you to hook the GoFlex Home to your wireless router. Then any computer on your home network can access the drive and back up the data. The Home is compatible with Apple's Time Machine.
A premium service option called Seagate Share Pro is available. Share Pro is a remote access service that gives you access to the content on the drive from iPhone/iPad and Blackberry phones. A personalized RSS feed can be created to update friends and relatives when new shared pictures (say, vacation photos) are available.
A power saving idle mode turns on after 30 minutes of inactivity, along with a full shut off if you plan not to use the drive for a while. This may seem trivial, but many network attached storage (NAS) devices can't be shut off without unplugging them.
