120 Hz and more

Sony has announced the VPL-VW85, their latest 1080p front projector.

In addition to increasing the refresh rate to 120 Hz, Sony has added a number of other features specifically for the CEDIA and custom install crowd.

To reduce motion blur, the VPL-VW85 has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Sony's name for this is Motionflow 120Hz and it has black frame insertion so those that don't like motion interpolation (the more common way of increasing the refresh/framerate) don't have to watch "Soap-Opera Vision".

Like previous models, the VPL-VW85 has motorized lens shift. An anamorphic zoom mode allows the VPL-VW85 to be used on 2.35:1 screens for movies of the same aspect ratio. Sony is claiming a dynamic contrast ratio of 120,000:1 and brightness of 800 ANSI lumens.

The VPL-VW85 will be available in October.
