Two of a Perfect Pair

At first glance, it’s obvious that THE LARS is something special.

With its transparent exterior mantle—intended to both protect and show off the sextet of vacuum tubes within—as well as its beautiful base and trim inspired by classic Swedish radio and television furniture, this stunning amplifier is sure to be a conversation piece based on design alone.

Dig beneath the gorgeous surface and there’s even more to discuss.

Every aspect of the amp’s design was carefully chosen by Engström & Engström owner Lars Engström, for whom the amp is named, to eliminate Transient Intermodulation Distortion. Every tube, every capacitor, every connection within was chosen or designed with this ultimate goal in mind.

THE LARS comes in two configurations for now: The original Type One, a 16-watt-per-channel pair with volume control and four inputs (two balanced, two unbalanced); and the new XLS model, a 32-watt-per-channel monoblock design with two inputs (one balanced, one unbalanced).

Both models are available in palisander, ebony, black, maple or walnut, with chrome- or gold-plated details.

PRICE:
Type One: $100,000
XLS: $90,000/pair
