Hugo de Ruiter’s design for de Sede of Switzerland’s DS-166 chair is as much about comfort in the home theater as it is conversation.

“As a designer, I’m interested in sitting as a social activity, and so I access a good design from a conceptual angle,” he says.

“In this, the relation between sitting space and human social fascinates me.”

Unlike a stationary row of theater seating, the DS-166 swivels so you can turn to chat with your neighbor.

The chair, ergonomic and sculptural in form, wraps around you like a cocoon.

Available in five durable leather grades or Microsuede fabric; the base comes with a matte chrome finish or polished chrome.
