240 is, like, twice as good as 120
Sony’s big technology push this year on LCDs is 240Hz. Unlike some of the companies doing 240, Sony’s is an actual 240 Hz refresh.
All the info after the jump.
The XBR9 models use a wide color gamut CCFL backlight (cold cathode florescent), as opposed to the XBR8’s LED backlighting. While you lose the local dimming aspect, you gain “Motionflow 240.”
The idea behind this is an even faster refresh will minimize motion blur even further than 240. Though I’m sure the fact that 240 is twice as much as the 120 everyone else is talking about didn’t enter into it at all.
The XBR9 line (with the exception of the32-inch) has integrated Bravia Internet Video, Sony’s gateway to online/streaming content.
There are three models in the XBR line with the 240Hz, the 52-inch KDL-52XBR9, the 46-inch KDL-46XBR9 and the 40-inch KDL-40XBR9. There is also a 32-inch model, the KDL-32XBR9 that is 120 Hz.
In addition, the Z series has most of the features of the XBR9 line, including the 240Hz, not including the wide color gamut CCFL, and is Energy Star 3.0 compliant. The Z series also has an integrated Bravia Internet Video.
There are three models, the 52-inch KDL-52Z5100, the 46-inch KDL-46Z5100, and the 40-inch KDL-40Z5100.
All will be available in the spring, and no prices were announced.
