There’s been a lot of debate about the long-term potential of 3D. Consumers thinking about whether to invest in a new 3D TV or computer monitor shouldn’t worry about the impact of the technology on their traditional 2D viewing experiences, however. In most cases, manufacturers are bundling 3D into flagship products as an option that doesn’t necessarily have to be used.

A good example of this trend is the new ViewSonic V3D245 24-inch 3D 1080p LED monitor. The manufacturer’s latest product incorporates NVIDIA’s 3D Vision wireless emitter and glasses to provide users with an active-3D option. However, it’s still a traditional monitor that provides a 1920x1080p resolution, an HDMI 1.4 input, and a contrast ratio that’s capable of reaching 20,000,000:1.

Designed for the gaming and enthusiast home video crowd, the display is engineered to set up quickly and produce quality 2D and 3D graphics. “Gamers, movie buffs and photo enthusiasts will love moving up to 3D. And there’s no better way to do so than with ViewSonic’s V3D245 3D monitor, with its built-in NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, which produces the most immersive and crystal clear 3D images,” boasts Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision at NVIDIA. “Set up is quick and easy. Simply connect the monitor to your NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, put on the included NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses, and start enjoying games, videos and photos in a whole new way.”

Erik Willey, LCD monitor and PC product marketing manager for ViewSonic, adds the combination of NVIDIA and ViewSonic technologies represents the future of consumer video. “Whether for work, play or media enjoyment, our new V3D245 monitor offers the highest level of compatibility with both PC- and console-based 3D content, and is ideal for delivering an incredible 3D experience,” Willey points out. “By pairing our exclusive 120Hz, LED-based 3D technology with NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, we are able to deliver a new world-class level of performance that will shape the future of 3D gaming and entertainment.”

ViewSonic says the monitor will be available in North America in mid-to-late August and it comes with a pair of NVIDIA 3D Vision active-shutter 3D glasses. Expect the V3D245 to have an MSRP of $500, which includes a limited three-year warranty.
