The AE1 Mk III SE is a modern update on the now 20-year-old classic AE1, and is designed and built in the UK.

Sold in a limited 100-pair numbered run the AE1 Mk III SE has a number of tweaks that Acoustic Energy claims enhances the performance over the original.

The cabinet is 0.71-inch (18mm) MDF lined with a 4mm steel plate. The 4.33-inch (110mm) spun aluminum cone woofer has twin neodymium magnets in the 1.26-inch (32mm) voice coil. The 1.5-inch (38mm) ring radiator tweeter has a claimed response out to 40 kHz.

The symmetrical third order crossover, set at 3 kHz, has been simplified, and includes ferrite-core and air-core inductors, Welwyn wire wound resistors, and ClarityCap capacitors. The internal wiring is PTFE-coated multi-strand silver cable, terminated in a single pair of gold-plated WBT binding posts.

Acoustic Energy claims a frequency response for the AE1 Mk III SE of 70 Hz to 22 kHz, +/- 3 dB, and a sensitivity of 87 dB at 2.83v at 1 meter.

The AE1 Mk III SE is available in Piano Black, Cheery Wood Veneer, Pearl White, or any custom finish desired by the buyer.
