Serious Materials has announced a new line of QuietHome Soundproof doors, one of which is actually THX-Certified.

The twist is that they look like doors that you’d want in a home.

The regular QuietHome door is 1.75-inches thick and has an STC (sound transfer class) rating of 44. The THX-Certified model is 2.25-inches thick and has an STC of 51. According to Serious Materials hollow core doors, for comparison, have an STC of 15, while solid core doors have an STC of 27.

The regular door is available now, the THX-Certified model will be available first quarter 2009.
