Because time-shifting is so 2008.

EchoStar and Dish Network have announced the first HD DVR to incorporate SlingMedia’s popular SlingBox technology, which allows you to watch TV and other stored content on your laptop, mobile phone, or other broadband-enabled device. Now, not only can Dish Network customers time-shift to their hearts' content, but they can place-shift, as well.

The new ViP 922 is a dual-tuner HD DVR with a whopping 1-terabyte hard drive that can store up to 1,000 hours of HD content. The box supports higher-quality MPEG-4 signals and resolutions up to 1080p. You can load photos, MP3, and select Internet content onto the box, which also allows for the addition of an external hard drive to further increase storage capacity.

The ViP 922 is a stylish unit, with a gloss-black finish and capacitive-touch buttons on the front panel. Even more likely to catch your eye, though, is the new RF remote. This touchpad remote eliminates half the buttons you’d find on a standard remote and offers cursor-like navigation and control of the onscreen menu system, which has also been redesigned to include widget-like tiles and pop-up menus.

Not only does SlingBox technology let you view your ViP 922’s content remotely, but the new SlingGuide Web interface lets you schedule Dish Network recordings while you’re away from home, with a powerful search engine for your TV content.
