Life/ware thinks smaller...and bigger.

The company is adding bookend models to its Life/media line of Windows Media Center PCs. On the low end, the LMS-170 is designed to fill an "entry-level" need and provide an all-in-one solution that combines media center with surround processor.

Most specs weren’t yet available, but we know the system is the first Life/media model to use an AMD processor and will have dual CableCARD slots, onboard amplification, and integrated ZigBee wireless functionality. The price is TBD but should be less than $5,000.

On the high end of the spectrum is the new LMS-810, which boasts 12TB of storage and two integrated CableCARD slots, plus another six CableCARD slots courtesy of the new Life/tuner add-on module -- for a total of eight independent, recordable HD video streams. This model also supports up to 10 media center extenders to distribute A/V content to 10 different zones.

Perhaps the biggest news is that both new models will support Blu-ray playback, and Life/ware is adding Blu-ray support to all 500, 600, and 700 Series Life/media models. Naturally, the new products will come loaded with the Life/ware automation platform, and both will be available in the first quarter of 2009.

PRICES:
