Philips’ LCD swan song?
This year, Philips is handing over its TV production to Funai, so the new 7000 Series of 1080p LCDs is likely to be the final series designed exclusively by Philips. Marketing materials are already being branded “P&F USA” for Philips & Funai.
The new 7000 Series includes four models that range in size from 32 to 52 inches. All four models feature 120Hz technology and a super-low 2-millisecond response time to help reduce motion blur, as well as Philips’ Perfect Natural Motion technology to eliminate film judder.

The TVs also include a new feature called Halo-Free technology, which removes the faint halos that accompany fast-moving action on LCDs. We’re happy to see that the new models include the Settings Assistant that helps you quickly and easily make picture adjustments when you first power up the display.
Philips classifies all of its new models as Eco TVs. They include a proprietary dimming technology that dynamically adjusts the backlight based on the content being shown, plus a light sensor that automatically measures the room’s ambient light and adjusts the backlight. The packaging and manuals are made of recycled material.
These TVs have a distinctive design with a very thin bezel that’s surrounded by a rounded acrylic edge. The sound is powered from the back and carried throughout the acrylic edge. These design features give the TVs a sleeker footprint; the 42-inch model takes up nearly the same space as a typical 37-inch display.
The 7000 Series TVs will be available in April.
