Pulling wires is a drag - literally. Russound's Collage Powerline Media and Intercom System distributes digitally stored music and intercom signals throughout a home using the existing residential electrical system based on Russound's proprietary Gridcast communication protocol. It's kind of like X10, only with great fidelity for music and none of the interrupted/corrupted/disrupted communication that can sometimes happen with other powerline technologies.

The system consists of a Collage Media Manager (CMM1) that connects to the homeowner's local area network through a router. Plugging in the power cord is all that's needed to begin establish the Powerline Carrier network. The CMM1 is capable of delivering up to three independent streams of digital music from the local area network and online music services such as Rhapsody.

Collage Amplified Keypads (CAK1) are installed in any location where a new zone of music and intercom is desired. Once the CAK1 is connected to the electrical line, it is immediately welcomed onto the Powerline Carrier network. That sound you hear is your installer doing a victory dance as he realizes he doesn't have to troubleshoot a wireless audio distribution network.)

The CAK1 has a high-resolution 1/4 VGA display that provides viewing system information, source metadata, or even video from one of Russound's IP-based security cameras that will be available soon. The CAK1 mounts in-wall and includes an internal FM tuner for local-source radio listening plus a built-in microphone for use with the intercom and monitoring the room for spies. Did we mention there's also a system clock with alarm and sleep timer? The built-in amp provides 32 watts per zone.
