Music Mile High

The four year old RMAF has grown rapidly in its short life. Over 160 rooms across two hotels feature some of the best the world of high-end audio has to offer. Speakers, amplifiers, turntables and more.

Our own Steve Guttenberg headed to Denver to take in the sights and sounds.

Here's his highlights from the show in pictures.

ABOVE LEFT: Big in the '80s, Apogee ribbon speakers are back, this is the Diva. Apogees are now made by True Sound Works. Edit: According to Apogee, True Sound Works are Apogee's "appointed/endorsed repairers/restorers and re-sellers" and the speakers themselves are manufactured in Australia.

ABOVE RIGHT: KEF's ultimate speaker, the Muon, looked and sounded outrageous.

ABOVE LEFT: Bel Canto CD2 player, DAC 3 digital converter, and REF 500 power amplifiers.

ABOVE RIGHT: ViV Laboratory's Evanui Signature speaker features a Floating Diaphragm Mechanism to produce ultra low distortion sound.

This custom turntable from dealer High Water Sound has four, count 'em, four tonearms outfitted with four different phono cartridges! Each has its own sound signature.

Jolida's glass encased JT-10 vacuum tube integrated amplifier sounded wonderful and retails for a mere $400!

ABOVE LEFT: Emerald Physics' CS 1 speaker does away with the box -- and features a 1-inch tweeter, front and rear 15-inch drivers. It sounded like a large panel speaker, with lots of bass.

ABOVE RIGHT: YG Acoustics's Kipod Studio produced laser sharp stereo imaging.

ABOVE LEFT: Krell's massive, all-aluminum Modulari Duo speaker has a muscular sound, but it's super transparent.

ABOVE RIGHT: Waterfall's glass cabineted speakers sounded remarkably clear.

Thorens just celebrated its 125th anniversary, this is their new TD 160 HD turntable.

And last, but certainly not least (in any way), the Focal Grande Utopia EM was far and away the best sounding speaker at RMAF. Oh, it's $180,000.
