There can be only one…okay, maybe two.
Is Vivitek’s H6080FD the industry’s first 1080p LED projector? Or is it Delta Electronics’ HT-8000? Both claim the title. Both are on display at the show. Neither has yet to hit the market. Who will win The Prize?

Both models are 1920 x 1080 projectors that use Luminus Devices’ PhlatLight LED chipset and Texas Instruments’ DLP technology. Luminus refers to Vivitek as a Delta customer, so perhaps the two projectors are more alike and less at odds than it may first appear. (So, no epic battle then?)
Some of the benefits of an LED-based DLP projector, compared with a traditional lamp-based model, are an absence of mercury, a longer life span (Vivitek quotes 20,000 hours for the LED light source in the H6080FD), and quieter, cooler operation – thanks to the lack of a color wheel and thus fewer moving parts. Also, the PhlatLight LED PT-120 chipset offers instant startup and doesn’t require the warm-up and cool-down periods of a lamp-based projector.
Light output has been a concern with early LED prototypes, but the H6080FD’s light output is rated at a respectable 800 lumens.
The H6080FD is scheduled for release in June with an MSRP of $19,999. (The Delta HT-8000 is scheduled for release sometime in the first quarter.)
