Epson goes Home for CES. Back at CEDIA, Epson showed off its new top-of-the-line PowerLite Pro Cinema 7500UB projector, a 1080p model aimed at the custom marketplace. At CES, the company demoed the new Home Cinema 6500UB, which shares many of the Pro model’s performance attributes but drops a few higher-end features.
The Home Cinema 6500UB is a 1080p LCD projector that features the latest 3LCD D7 chip set with UltraBlack technology. The new Cinema Filter produces a larger color space, while the 12-bit 3LCD driver technology allows for the reproduction of 68.72 billion colors. The Home Cinema 6500UB has a dynamic iris that can make adjustments up to 60 times per second. Epson claims a contrast ratio of 75,000:1 and a light output of 1,600 lumens. Like the Pro model, the 6500UB uses Silicon Optix’s Reon-VX HQV processor to ensure that input signals from 480i to 1080p look their best. However, it lacks the anamorphic lens support and ISF certification you get with the 7500UB. The connection panel includes two HDMI 1.3a inputs, as well as a VGA-type RGB input, but it lacks RS-232. In the ergonomics department, the projector offers a 2.1x zoom and 100 percent vertical and 50 percent horizontal lens shift, and its noise level is rated at 22 dB in its darkest picture mode. Available later this month, the Home Cinema 6500UB will be sold through direct consumer channels, including the Epson website. CONTACT: | |
