Catch this wave.
PS Audio showed off its new PerfectWave digital audio system, which includes the first transport capable of directly playing high-resolution WAV files recorded on both DVD and CD.
The company demoed the system using Reference Recordings’ high-definition HRx DVDs, which have a 24-bit/176-kHz resolution.
The PerfectWave suite includes two components: the PerfectWave Transport Memory Player (PWT) and the PerfectWave DAC (PWD).
The PWT transport rips all optical data to memory, using Exact Audio Copy (EAC), then outputs the data in jitter-free form through either S/PDIF or PS Audio’s I2S HDMI interface.
The PWD is a networkable digital-to-analog processor that can receive any digital audio signal with a resolution up to 24-bit/196-kHz and output it via either balanced XLR or RCA stereo jacks. It sports six digital inputs, including USB, optical, BNC, XLR, and two I2S HDMI inputs.

Install the optional network bridge, and the PWD can connect to a DLNA-compliant music server and receive streamed content, wired or wirelessly. It also supports Internet and AM/FM radio and music sites like Pandora and MusicGiants.
The PerfectWave system accesses cover art and metadata through its GlobalNet Internet connection and can be controlled via IR remote, an IP-friendly home automation system, or PS Audio’s iPhone/iPod Touch user interface.
PS Audio estimates a shipping date in late March. Final pricing has not been set, but the company expects that the transport and DAC will be priced between $2999 and $3499 apiece.
