Fall in love with the undulating curves and elegant surfaces of the Thomas Labusga Sonic Diffuser and you might not even care that this stunning work of handcrafted German art is also an ingenious acoustical treatment.

In as beautiful a case of form-following-function as we’ve seen, the gorgeous curvilinear waves of Labusga’s design are almost entirely a result of performance parameters.

The primary goal for the Sonic Diffuser, Labusga says, was to create a surface that would not only scatter reflected sound waves more uniformly than previous diffuser designs, but also reduce their energy significantly, meaning more of the sound that reaches your ears is coming directly from your speakers.

The result, Labusga says, is “a precise sound stage ... the sound is more airy, the instruments more tactile.”

The Thomas Labusga Sonic Diffuser, pictured below in its latest incarnation—a newer, smaller stainless steel design—is also available with wood veneer (bottom image), piano lacquer and leather finishes.
