It was just a short time ago that I was talking about Pioneer's decision to halt plasma manufacturing. This past week they showed their wares at the trendy (I’m told) Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City.

While one might expect some reduction in their products after such a huge announcement, they went the other way. They actually seem to be expanding their lines across the board with several new displays, Blu-ray players, and receivers.

Time to ditch all your gear... again.

Just when you got a handle on HDMI 1.3, here comes 1.4. While this is sure to elicit a groan from many, 1.4 has a host of new features that are actually very, very cool.

Starting with the ability to send Internet data over HDMI.

Just when you thought you knew thin.

In one of the coolest unveils at the show, Samsung has announced the 9000 series, which is only 0.3 inches thick. 

Specs are fuzzy at the moment, but what we know and a bunch more images of this incredible TV after the jump.

Samsung announced a number of new LCD and plasma TV models at its press conference, but the highlight was definitely the new crop of LED-based 1080p LCDs.

There can be only one…okay, maybe two.

Is Vivitek’s H6080FD the industry’s first 1080p LED projector? Or is it Delta Electronics’ HT-8000? Both claim the title. Both are on display at the show. Neither has yet to hit the market. Who will win The Prize?

Free your TV

One of the sad realities of flat panel ownership is that you can't hang them on the wall as easily as TV commercials make you believe. Not only is there the power cable to worry about, but also a half dozen or more cables from your DVR, DVD player, PS3, and so on.

Philips’ LCD swan song?

This year, Philips is handing over its TV production to Funai, so the new 7000 Series of 1080p LCDs is likely to be the final series designed exclusively by Philips. Marketing materials are already being branded “P&F USA” for Philips & Funai.
